Brown family
The Brown Residence, designed in 2022 and completed in 2023, stands as a modern haven in Montreal, Quebec. This newly constructed home was crafted to seamlessly blend different functional areas while addressing the unique needs of the clients, including the integration of a snow melting system to enable winter use of the backyard.
The challenge
The primary challenge was to create a cohesive layout that flowed effortlessly between different areas while ensuring accessibility and comfort throughout the year, especially during the winter months. Additionally, the design needed to cater to the diverse needs of the family members.
The solution
To address these challenges, the design focused on fluid transitions between spaces. The main floor features a balcony with a linear outdoor kitchen and a heated lounging area, allowing for year-round enjoyment. Stone steps lead down to the main pool area that is divided in two zones. One being the main area for swimming and a small area on the left for relaxing divided by some “floating” stepping stones, that provides access to a pergola divided into two distinct zones.
The achievements
The Brown Residence exceeded client expectations with its meticulous attention to detail and seamless integration of diverse spaces. From the natural stone accents to the thoughtful selection of materials and textures, every aspect of the design complements the home's modern aesthetic. The project's success lies in its ability to harmonise functionality with accessibility, allowing the family to enjoy the outdoor amenities year-round, even in Montreal's challenging climate.
